A firm believer in the importance of happiness, Governor Ikuo Kabashima set out to measure happiness, creating the Aggregate Kumamoto Happiness (AKH) Index. Born to a farming family and a graduate of Kamoto Kumamoto Prefectural High School, he continued his studies into his Master’s and Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska and Harvard University. Incubating the idea that within hardship, there are dreams to be realized, Ikuo Kabashima worked as a University of Tokyo Professor and is currently Governor of Kumamoto.
