Kuroda Reiko is a Professor at Tokyo University of Science, a professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo. Prof. Kuroda specializes in chemistry and biology, and has long been researching on chirality (left-right asymmetry) that are found widely in nature, and was awarded with the L’OREAL UNESCO Prize in 2013 for discovering the functional importance of chirality of molecules which has wide applications for research including in neurodegenerative diseases. At the same time, as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board to the UN secretary General, fellow in TWAS and etc, she has been playing an important role in connecting science and society advising for policies from a viewpoint of a scientist. Also she has made a great effort in establishing the Science Interpreter Training Program in the University of Tokyo, in order to build better relationships between science and society.
